An Evening of Unity: Returning Point at the Unforgettable 26th Savaball in Vienna

Vienna, February 1, 2025 – On January 31st, the 26th Savaball took place at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, as one of the most significant events for the Serbian diaspora. Over 2,500 guests gathered, including representatives from institutions and organizations, artists, diplomats, as well as members of the Serbian community from various parts of the world.

This prestigious event, revived in 1998, has deep historical roots, dating back to 1846 when the “Serbian Quadrille” was first performed. Today, it is the only foreign ball held at the prestigious Hofburg Palace and holds a special place in the cultural calendar of Vienna, annually bringing together Serbs from all over the world while providing an opportunity for connection, strengthening unity, and promoting values that unite us.

“Savaball is dedicated to preserving Serbian culture and tradition, the spirit of Saint Sava’s values, and the core values that connect us, with a strong mission to help and create a better future for those who need it most. This is the largest gathering of the Serbian diaspora and an opportunity to remember the power of unity and pass on our history and customs to future generations,” said Milan Vidović, President of the Serbian Center in Vienna.

The evening was filled with a rich cultural program, blending Serbian tradition with contemporary artistic expressions. Guests enjoyed the sounds of the Viennese waltz, as well as traditional melodies performed by Serbian artists. A special highlight was the performance of the “Serbian Quadrille,” a symbol of unity between Serbia and Austria, which was presented at midnight, this year holding special significance as we mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss Jr., the composer of this piece.

The program brought together prominent figures from the world of culture and diplomacy. Among the attendees were representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Austria, officials from the Republic of Srpska, as well as the Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, who emphasized the importance of the Serbian community in Vienna and its contribution to the social and cultural life of the city.

Savaball, with its rich cultural program and humanitarian character, remains an event of exceptional significance for connecting the Serbian diaspora, promoting cultural heritage, and preserving the traditions that bind us, not only in Vienna but around the world. For this reason, it is a great pleasure for the organization Returning Point to support this prestigious event and be a part of it, as a unique opportunity to strengthen the bonds among Serbs and their friends worldwide.
