First “Returning Point” Café Held in Vienna: A New Space for Dialogue with the Diaspora

On Sunday, April 13th, the first “Returning Point” café was held in Vienna – an informal gathering that brought together representatives from our organization (this time Uroš Živković, the director of the organization) with members of the diaspora, in a pleasant atmosphere over coffee and open discussions about ideas, needs, and opportunities for further cooperation with or return to Serbia. This meeting represents an important step in creating a stronger connection between our country and those who live and work outside its borders.

This initiative stemmed from the desire to listen more attentively and understand the people living outside of Serbia who still want to stay connected to the local community, whether through professional projects, personal initiatives, or cultural exchange. Through such discussions, we create space for concrete ideas that can become the foundation for joint projects and long-term cooperation.

At the first meeting, several interested individuals from different fields attended, and the event lasted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During that time, representatives of our diaspora shared their experiences, thoughts, dilemmas, and inspirations with us, while we, on the other hand, listened carefully – because it is precisely from such conversations that ideas emerge which can evolve into concrete steps and collaborations. In addition to becoming acquainted with the work of the “Returning Point” and meeting director Uroš Živković, attendees also had the opportunity to connect with each other, making this gathering much more than an informational event; it became a shared space for exchange and support.

For us as an organization, this was a valuable experience that demonstrated how important direct dialogue is – and how much potential there is for joint action. We believe that open conversations like these lay the foundation for lasting cooperation and that where there is a will to stay connected, there is also the opportunity to co-create and improve our community.

Due to the positive feedback, we plan to continue organizing such gatherings in other cities around the world. We are confident that each new meeting will contribute to strengthening the bridge between the diaspora and Serbia, creating a space for all those who want to contribute and be part of positive change.
