Returning Point at AmChamps: Returnees’ Perspectives as Inspiration for Young Leaders

This year, Returning Point became one of the official parnters of AmChamps 2.1 program, a program the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia (AmCham) has been implementing since 2014. Through this new partnership, we participated in creating sessions aimed at bringing participants closer to the perspectives of returnee life and the challenges (but also opportunities) of returning professionally to Serbia. To this end, we gathered five speakers – experts, founders, and entrepreneurs who returned from abroad and decided to invest their knowledge and experience here:

  • Tihomir Bajić, an engineer and founder of many startups, spoke about the importance of networking Serbian entrepreneurs and how, through community support, a successful business can be built after returning from the US.

  • Ana Popović, founder of the brand Ana Popović Shoes, shared her experience of building a fashion story that operates simultaneously in Belgrade and New York – and how the challenges of balancing between two markets look.

  • Bojan Martinović from inclusio.rs highlighted the power of entrepreneurship to change society – especially when it is responsible, inclusive, and people-oriented. The experience he gained in Italy, combined with the returnee perspective, contributed to an important discussion about the role of values in business.

  • Jovan Paunović, founder of Treesury, presented his latest project combining innovations in agriculture, technology, and blockchain, as well as the reasons he decided to develop this idea specifically in Serbia.

  • Uroš Živković, Returning Point director, opened important topics about the return of experts to Serbia, especially the roles returnees can play in community development.

These meetings created space for sincere discussions about challenges, motivation, business lessons, and most importantly, the opportunities Serbia offers today to those who want to contribute to the local community with global experience.

We thank AmCham for the trust and the opportunity to participate in a program that systematically invests in the development of young talents. We believe that initiatives like these will leave a long-lasting impact and help future leaders think globally while creating locally.
